F.LLI BURAGLINI & NEPOTI was officially founded in 1950 as BURAGLINI GIULIO & FIGLI, but
its history is much older. In fact, from the local Parish archives there are documents from
which it is clear that the family moved in 1695 from Amatrice of the Province of Rieti in the
Lazio Region, at the time of the Kingdom of Naples, to Macchie di Castiglione del Lago (Perugia)
at the time of the Vatican State. In this new destination, the family started the production of
"fiscoli"(scourtins in French): the filter mats used for oil presses, serving the numerous local
producers. This results from the documentation preserved by prestigious historical local farms
such as the FARINA FARM IN POZZUOLO UMBRO (PG) that in the original administrative document of
the "REPORT OF THE OLIVE VINTAGE 1867 / 1868" mentions the registration of the expense for:"N °
48 FISCOLI SUPPLIED BY BURAGLINI AT 80 CENTS EACH".
The Company's activity has operated continuously over time despite various kinds of adverse
conditions that have affected the olive groves, such as the periodic winter
frosts that have
devastated entire plantations of olive trees, most recently in 1929, 1956, 1985 or the lack of
raw material (coconut fiber) during the Second World War, as the cultivation and production
areas of that material were mostly from the English colonies. In that period the "fiscoli" were
produced with the reed plants that grow on the shores of the Trasimeno Lake, specially treated
in order to allow the production of mats.
In 1972 the Company moved to new premises, located in the territory of the medieval town PANICALE
where it still operates and to this day continues to serve the olive millers who prefer the
traditional olive oil extraction method.
